The Priestess reflects the inner presence of the divine. She is in an attitude of prayer, her hands forming a pyramid to the skies. She acts as a conduit of this divine energy and channels it from above and from below within the temple of her being. She is ruled by the moon and as such embodies mystery and illumination.

        The priestess is a light and guide throughout a dark tunnel and is heavily connected with the astrological water sign Pisces and the color deep blue and/or violet which indicates the mixture of purple and her strong connection to spirit. This major arcana archetype symbolizes the murky depths of emotion that course through us all, and the intuition and insight that can arise from that.

        The circlet upon her head represents the circle of life, the orbit of the moon and the crown chakra. Her many pearled bracelets indicate “pearls of wisdom” and the continuity of knowledge.

Reversed: This card in the reverse position reveals the shadow side of the priestess just as the moon by which she is ruled possesses a dark side. This is one of disharmony, lack of learning and light, and deeply sunken secrets that need to rise to the surface.
