Life is a game of chance and risk. Sometimes we win and sometimes we lose. Reward or loss, success or failure, can depend on numerous uncertain variables. The outcome can be difficult to predict, and though we all desire to win, sometimes we are bound for disappointment.

        The Wheel of Fortune spins just as the earth beneath our feet, revolving in cycles within the circle of life. It represents the four cardinal directions as on a compass-North, South, East and West-and thereby the four elements as well-Fire, Water, Air and Earth.

        With this in mind we see that as a ship, the Wheel of Fortune is like the helm, and which way we set our heading has a large bearing on where we will end up. However, stormy skies and turbulent seas can throw us off course. Sometimes this can run us into the rocks, or turns out to be a good thing, and we discover new lands, opportunities or treasure.

        In addition, this major arcana is associated with time. The driving force of our will combines with turning points and changes in circumstance to dictate our destiny.
